Travelling With a Non-Visible Disability
Support for passengers with non-visible disabilities
Have an easy journey through the airport.
If you or a member of your party is travelling with a non-visible disability, we can offer you some assistance to make your journey through the airport more comfortable. This includes a range of extra facilities.
Sunflower Lanyard Scheme
London Stansted proudly participates in the Sunflower Lanyard scheme. By wearing a sunflower lanyard, you can discreetly signal to our specially trained staff that you have a hidden disability and may require additional support. Our team is always ready to assist you with care and understanding.
You don’t need to use our Assisted Travel service to request a lanyard. Simply collect one from the Assistance Reception in Zone A. If you already have one from another UK airport participating in the scheme, you’re welcome to use the same one.
Just so you know, we can’t send these before your trip, and they don’t give you access to the Security FastTrack lane. If you think using the Assistance lane would help, please talk to a staff member at Security.
Travelling with...
Hearing and visual impairment
If you need to travel with an Assistance Dog, we have a handy guide full of useful information on each stage of your journey.
Dementia
Well-planned holidays can be really beneficial for people with dementia. The Alzheimer's Society has created a handy guide for carers to get the most out of the holiday. From packing tips to navigating the airport journey, it's full of useful information.
We're also proud to be accredited as an Inclusive Dementia Community Airport.
Inclusive Dementia Community Airport accreditation
Since October 2024, London Stansted Airport has been recognised as an Inclusive Dementia Community Airport. This accredited status was achieved through close work with The Alzheimer's Society (Essex) and the following initiatives:
- Dementia awareness training: Over 1,000 staff trained to support passengers with dementia.
- Clear signage: Easy-to-read signs and visual aids to improve navigation.
- Quiet space: A designated area for relaxation away from the Departure Lounge.
- Upgraded facilities: Improved accessible toilets and Changing Places facilities.
- Dedicated meeting points: Safe spaces for passengers with dementia to reunite with their travelling companions.
- Facilitated visits with people living with dementia: To help them learn about the support available and any points where they may require assistance.
Our airport is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for individuals with dementia. Working with The Alzheimer’s Society (Essex), people living with dementia, and other key stakeholders, we aim to meet their specific needs. We aim to help those with dementia and their families feel comfortable and confident while travelling through the airport.
